Taking the Leap to Secondary School Workshop

supporting students and parents with transition to secondary school

Transitioning to secondary school is a major milestone for Year 6 students and their families. Along with the excitement of new opportunities comes change — academically, socially, and emotionally. Many students feel both excited and nervous at the same time. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of anticipation and uncertainty.

The Taking the Leap to Secondary School workshop equips both students and parents with a simple, structured system for time, planning, and task management.  The goal is to reduce stress, build confidence, and leave participants with practical tools they can start using immediately — at school and in life.

There are two workshops in this series with the first designed to be run in conjunction with a Primary School’s Transition Program for Year 6 students or a Secondary School’s Year 7 program.
Student Workshop

The student workshop (1 hour, interactive) will help students to:

  • understand what to expect in secondary school
  • recognise that mixed feelings are common and shared
  • build confidence and reduce anxiety around the transition
  • learn practical tools for organisation, time, and task management
  • gain strategies to become more independent and responsible.
Parent Workshop

The Parent Workshop offers:

  • practical tips & strategies to support your child’s transition

  • insights into how to encourage time and diary management at home

  • ways to help them become more confident and organised.

Amanda has successfully implemented this program for many primary schools across Australia for over a decade.

Don’t just take our word for it

Amanda has a variety of school workshops/programs for junior and senior year levels. Naturally any of these workshops can be tailored to suit the needs of both the students and the school. Please keep reading below for sample workshop topics.

“Luke and I went to Amanda’s workshop before he started year 7 this year. Luke is a kid that needs time to take in new things, and this was invaluable to him settling into year 7 sooner rather then later. Highly recommended for all children transitioning to year 7 next year.”

“Amanda ran a to the point workshop that helped both parents and students understand what to expect from secondary school. Amanda was very friendly, easy going and likeable, allowing parents and students the opportunity to speak freely about their concerns. Students and parents left the workshop with a smile on their face and with a better indication of what to expect in the year to come”

“The organising workshop was practical and included elements of transition which are relevant to all Year sixes, regardless of their chosen school”

“It was useful to learn about diaries and managing time because if I had a big amount of work and I didn’t know that, I would get very stressed”
